Calling Lakes Centre
has recently been the recipient of several large gifts. As I
think about the intentions of the people who remember the Centre
in their wills or who choose to be exceptionally generous I am
awed and grateful.
Esther Brandon Estate – $15,000 (at
least, not completely settled yet) Esther lived in Regina and
worshipped at Knox-Metropolitan United Church. She was an active
woman who volunteered with CUSO and worked with CIDA, before she
moved to Regina to care for her mother. She was a life long
learner, was active in many organizations and was always
generous in her support of many charities.
Good Spirit Presbytery – has chosen to
gift Calling Lakes Centre with $11,000 from the sale of Camp
McKay. $9,000 of that is intended for work to benefit children
and youth and $2,000 to relieve debt load.
Extra Measures gift – In response to the
Extra Measures program through which the Stewardship Education
committee is encouraging pastoral charges and congregations to
give to specific projects over and above their regular Mission &
Service Fund givings. An anonymous donor has given the Centre
$10,000, to be used either to renovate 10 bathrooms or to buy a
tractor. We have decided that the bathrooms are our most urgent
priority!
Margaret Goodman estate – settlement of
the estate, mostly in stocks and bonds, is currently in
progress. This is a substantial gift for which we are grateful.
We will provide more information in the next newsletter.
