Cookies, Bars & Candy

FROSTED CREAM SQUARES
Joyce Doak, Kirkfield Park United, Winnipeg, MB

cup shortening tsp salt
sugar 1 tsp baking powder
1 egg tsp baking soda
corn syrup 1 tsp cinnamon
cup strong coffee tsp ground cloves
1 cups sifted flour
Icing:
2 cups icing sugar 1 tsp vanilla
cup butter 2 Tbsp cream
Set oven at 350 . Grease a 9x13 pan. Beat shortening until creamy. Add sugar gradually; beat until fluffy. Add egg, syrup and coffee. Mix well. Sift remaining ingredients. Stir into mixture and beat until smooth. Pour into pan and bake for 25 min. Mix icing ingredients until smooth and spread on cake while still warm. Cool and cut into squares. Makes about 18.
